SB 964 Passes Senate; Deer Farmers Urge Passage of HB 2031

COLUMBIA, MO- In the wake of seeing the Missouri Department of Conservation’s intentions for deer farming with their harmful proposed regulations, deer farmers were able to make significant gains in becoming regulated as livestock.

The Missouri Whitetail Deer & Hunting Ranch Association’s Senate Bill 964 to have captive deer regulated by the Department of Agriculture, rather than the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), passed the Missouri Senate 23-9. An identical version of the bill currently being considered on the House side was passed out of committee yesterday to continue advancing through the process. If passed and signed by the Governor, the MDC will lose its jurisdiction over Missouri’s deer farming.

The timing of the MDC’s proposed outline of some of the most devastating regulations ever seen in the cervid industry fueled deer farmers to illustrate to legislators the conditions of being under MDC oversight.

Missouri deer farmers continue to advocate for the passage of House Bill 2031 to protect the livelihoods of cervid farmers and their families.
